SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Salem Mayor Anna Peterson has decided against running for a fourth term.

Peterson made the announcement Thursday to the Statesman Journal newspaper (https://is.gd/XeTni5 ). She said “everything has a season,” and three terms is enough for what amounts to a full-time volunteer job.

Peterson was first elected in 2010, when she defeated city councilor Chuck Bennett. Her current two-year term expires at the end of 2016.

Peterson said her priorities for the last year in office include boosting economic development, building a new police station and completing the Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge.
