AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A Texas lawmaker is asking the state attorney general to determine if daily fantasy sports betting websites are illegal gambling operations in the Lone Star State.

The request from Republican Rep. Myra Crownover was filed Thursday. That’s the same day New York’s attorney general said betting sites FanDuel and DraftKings are illegal in that state and ordered them to stop accepting bets in New York.

Crownover’s letter to Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton notes that Texas law has “generally criminalized gambling.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, himself a former state attorney general, said last month he would be cautious about the state imposing restrictions on sports fantasy websites.
