HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A group of labor and environmental activists says it’s possible to protect the environment while creating jobs.

The Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs, Labor Network for Sustainability and Synapse Energy Economics, a research and consulting group, will release a report Monday on clean energy and job creation.

The group says greenhouse gas emissions in Connecticut can be reduced by 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050, while more than 6,700 new jobs are created a year.

Two-thirds of the jobs will be in construction and manufacturing.

The Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs was launched in 2012. It seeks to strengthen collaboration among labor, environmental and religious groups.

The Labor Network for Sustainability was founded in 2009 and tries to link long-term sustainability with environmental protection and economic issues.
