PHOENIX (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has filed candidacy papers to be on the Arizona ballot.

The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office confirmed Saturday that Carson filed the necessary election paperwork in person in Phoenix.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan was also in attendance.

The retired neurosurgeon is spending the weekend traveling the Southwest.

He is scheduled to speak at a church in Las Vegas and at a rally in Henderson on Sunday.

Carson said earlier this week that he would secure the U.S.-Mexico border in one year if elected to presidential office.

He also said he would allow people in the country illegally to stay as guest workers but not carve out a special path to citizenship for them.
