FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The University of North Alabama has announced that Patterson Hood, co-founder of the Southern rock band Drive-By Truckers, will be the university’s fall commencement speaker.

The TimesDaily of Florence reports (https://goo.gl/inWCW9) that commencement ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Flowers Hall.

Hood is the songwriting and guitar-playing front man for the Drive-By Truckers. The band has played more than 2,000 shows and released a dozen albums in almost 20 years. Hood also has released three studio albums, and has been a lecturer or speaker at several universities.

Hood is a Florence native and was a University of North Alabama student before moving to Athens, Georgia, where the band is based.
