MILFORD, Ohio (AP) - A Cincinnati naturalist who painted the cardinal on the state’s license plates is having a birthday party.

John Ruthven turned 91 on Thursday. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (https://cin.ci/1M9YuD9 ) he’ll be telling stories about his life at the Cincinnati Nature Center on Saturday afternoon at the Krippendorf Lodge in Milford.

The home was built on the nature center’s property in 1899.

Those who bring a birthday card for Ruthven will get in for free.

Ruthven’s work is featured in museums around the world. He has supported the Nature Center for 50 years through volunteer work, donations, and with his artwork. He was also a trustee and an honorary trustee.
