GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro will attend a fundraiser for the Michigan Democratic Party in Grand Rapids.

Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio, is scheduled to speak at the party’s first-ever “Best of the West” fundraising dinner Saturday night. He has been mentioned as a potential vice presidential running mate if Hillary Rodham Clinton secures the nomination.

Party Chairman Brandon Dillon says Castro represents the “future of the Democratic Party.” Dillon says he is particularly excited that Castro is visiting western Michigan, an area Dillon considers to be an important part of the party’s future in the state.

Individual tickets are $150. Sponsorships run from $2,500 to $10,000.
