DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a fatal shooting he claimed was self-defense.

A Volusia County judge sentenced 35-year-old Fredrick Smith on Friday. He was convicted in August of second-degree murder, while a co-defendant was acquitted.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://goo.gl/DlLrZf ) reports that Smith fatally shot 25-year-old Antwan Harris on New Year’s Day 2013. Officials say Harris wasn’t armed when he confronted Smith at Smith’s DeLand home that night.

Smith testified that Harris had previously threatened to kill him and fired several shots into the ground near him several weeks earlier.
