COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Lawmakers in Ohio are preparing to review whether daily fantasy sports betting sites should be declared illegal gambling operations.

State Rep. John Eklund of Chardon said Friday a subgroup of the Criminal Justice Recodification Committee that he leads will take up the issue soon. The group is specifically reviewing Ohio’s gambling laws.

Eklund said it may turn out the issue is best handled by a separate gaming and wagering committee.

New York’s attorney general recently decided to outlaw the sites. Ohio’s attorney general says the state Legislature is the appropriate body to enact any ban.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio’s Casino Control Commission said it’s a job for the Legislature or governor because fantasy sports doesn’t fit neatly into casino gaming or skill games regulated by that board.
