SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A grand jury has found an Oregon State Police trooper was justified in using deadly force when he fatally shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun at him.

A Marion County Grand Jury issued the finding Friday related to the Oct. 28 incident in which Trooper Jason Perrizo shot 36-year-old Jasper Levi Adams of Grants Pass.

Authorities say that evening another trooper tried to stop Adams south of Woodburn on Interstate 5 but he fled. The high-speed pursuit ended after 17 miles off the roadway south of Salem. When troopers moved in to arrest Adams, authorities say he pointed a gun at them. Senior Trooper Jason Perrizo fired one shot that killed Adams instantly.

Perrizo has been with the state police for 13 years.
