PHOENIX (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in the 2013 beating of another Arizona State University student at an off-campus apartment complex.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Kiernan Bates entered his plea Monday and will be sentenced Dec. 14.

Tempe police say the victim wandered into the wrong apartment in an off-campus building in September 2013 and refused to leave.

Bates was 19 at the time, as was the victim.

Police say Bates and two other students were accused of forcing the victim into an elevator and unlawfully imprisoning him.

Bates also was charged with assault, accused of beating the victim in the elevator.

Police say the victim suffered eight facial fractures and underwent four hours of reconstructive surgery after he was found unconscious and covered in blood.
