KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A Bigfork man who admitted to impregnating a 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Daily Inter Lake reports (https://bit.ly/1S0voru ) that 36-year-old Jaymason Bottin was sentenced Thursday. He was given a 40-year sentence in the Montana State Prison, with 15 years suspended.

Bottin was arrested in November 2014 after a DNA analysis identified him as the father of the teen’s child.

In arguing for a reduced sentence, Bottin’s attorney said his client’s relationship with the girl started out as a friendship that turned into a sexual relationship.

Prosecutor Travis Ahner argued that Bottin failed to take responsibility for his actions and tried to blame the victim.

Bottin apologized to the victim and her family in court Thursday.
