HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The mother of a Connecticut teenager accused of setting five arson fires has been charged with fabricating statements presented by her son’s lawyer while trying to get his bail reduced.

Theresa Izzo (EYE’-zoh) is charged with tampering with evidence and two counts of tampering with a witness.

Seventeen-year-old Davidson Izzo, whose case was transferred from juvenile to adult court, remains jailed on nearly $800,000 bail on five counts of first-degree arson.

Izzo lived near vacant buildings in Enfield that have been set ablaze at least eight times since Aug. 2014.

Authorities say Theresa Izzo had two co-workers at an East Hartford diner sign letters saying her son was with her at the diner during the time of one of the reported fires.

Her lawyer couldn’t be reached for comment Monday.
