ASHLAND, Wis. (AP) - Police say a suspicious fire that destroyed a church in Ashland is the second major blaze on Halloween in as many years.

Authorities say a man has been taken into custody for Saturday night’s fire that destroyed Salem Baptist Church. The building was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. Police say firefighters suspected it had been intentionally set because they detected accelerants.

The Daily Press (https://bit.ly/1NMR9db ) reports a 29-year-old Ashland man was arrested Sunday morning.

Last year on Halloween, a historic three-story brick building on Ashland’s Main Street was destroyed by fire. Authorities have said that fire was also due to arson.
