PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say an on-duty Johnson & Wales University security guard in Providence told them he was attacked inside his car by a Massachusetts man who allegedly yelled “I hate cops.”
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1P5ilqU ) the officer was flagged down by a shirtless man around 3:30 a.m. Sunday near the school’s downtown campus.
The officer told police that Thomas Woods, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, said he hated cops and allegedly punched the officer in his nose after he rolled down the window of his car. Officials say the guard didn’t need medical treatment.
Police say Woods was pepper-sprayed and detained by security until police arrested him. He has been charged with simple assault.
A university spokeswoman says Woods is not a student at the school.
