NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Students in Niagara Falls city schools should see more locally grown food in the cafeteria following the award of a federal grant.

The district’s in line to receive $45,000 in funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School Grant Program.

Members of the state’s congressional delegation announced the award on Friday.

The federal program was created to increase local foods served through child nutrition programs and teach children about agriculture.

The Niagara Falls district plans to use its funding to develop a network of local farmers to provide produce, dairy and meat products to the district’s food service program.
