MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - Mandan residents will get a chance to go down a 1,000-foot waterslide next summer.

City commissioners have approved use of public streets and fire hydrants for a second “Slide the City” event scheduled for Aug. 27.

The slide was set up for the first time in Mandan in August, and the event drew about 5,000 people, with 3,000 of them taking a ride down. The event raised $9,500 for a playground that can be used by children with disabilities.

Kelly Churchill with the Mandan Park District says the city will try to expand the event by possibly partnering with another organization to bring more vendors or crafts options.
