SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Police in Santa Fe are investigating a woman’s allegation that she stabbed a man because he tried to sexually assault her.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (https://bit.ly/21bYCdb) that police were called to a room at the Thunderbird Inn around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after someone reported screaming between a man and a woman.

Police spokesman Mark Lewandowski says they located a 52-year-old man with a stab wound in the front torso and bleeding on the floor.

A 19-year-old woman in the room told police she stabbed him in self-defense.

The man was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery.

He is currently in stable condition.

The woman was also taken to a hospital but released.

Lewandowski says the couple are not related but do know each other.
