TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - A bridge engineer who specializes in long spans and working in cold weather will serve as the state Thruway Authority’s executive project engineer on the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

Jamey Barbas has been hired to work with bridge builder Tappan Zee Constructors. The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1X8pqeU ) says she will make sure the $4 billion twin crossing opens on schedule in 2018.

Barbas’ previous projects include the reconstruction of the Williamsburg Bridge in Manhattan and heading up the design of a major highway in Montreal.

Thruway Authority chief Robert Megna says Barbas has valuable experience building bridges in cold weather.
