FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno congregation gathered Sunday night to remember the children’s pastor who collapsed and died after giving his sermon that morning.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1Hi0zON ) that 39-year-old Eddie Crain was rushed to a hospital but died of what Senior Pastor Steve Williams called a “cardiac event.”

Crain had delivered his Sunday sermon for the 8 a.m. service at NorthPointe Community Church and stepped behind the stage when he collapsed. The church canceled its 9:30 a.m. service.

Church officials say Crain leaves behind his wife, Kari, and five sons ranging from 7 years old to a college sophomore.

More than 1,100 people gathered to remember Crain at the church’s Sunday evening service. Many of the children and parents attending the service cried softly as pastors talked about Crain’s life.
