LILBURN, Ga. (AP) - Gwinnett County officials are searching for a missing teen who was swept down a river.

Media outlets report 14-year-old Jaheem McGhee went missing sometime Thursday, but friends didn’t report him missing until Friday evening. McGhee is a black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds.

Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Michele Pihera says McGhee’s friends told officers they were attempting to cross the Yellow River in a wooded section near Bending River Trail and Riverside Drive in Lilburn. Three friends made it across, but McGhee didn’t. The friends told police they last saw McGhee being swept away down river.

Pihera says officers have been searching the Yellow River on foot. A helicopter and cadaver dog have also joined search efforts.

Investigators are evaluating what their next step will be.
