FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 911 call of a man with a gun at a Long Island dollar store led to his arrest on weapons and kidnapping charges.

Nassau County police say Jovan Banks of Farmingdale was arrested Sunday evening following a brief foot chase.

They say officers responded to a Dollar Tree store in Farmingdale after receiving a call of a suspicious man with a gun.

Police located him a short distance away but he fled as they approached.

Police say they recovered a handgun and a knife at the scene.

They say a subsequent investigation revealed that Banks had earlier kidnapped his girlfriend at gunpoint from a residence. She was released unharmed.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Banks had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
