CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a train in Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told local media that the person was hit around 8:15 a.m. Monday by a Norfolk Southern train.

Witnesses told police the victim had her hood up and was talking into the sun when she was hit. Her name has not been released.

Police said the engineer was unable to stop the train.
