SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A central New York dental assistant who pleaded guilty to stealing painkillers from a dental office for her own use has been suspended.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1Mx2i1B ) Michelle Marie Kelly was charged by the state Education Department with professional misconduct after she was convicted of petit larceny in 2013 and sentenced to three years of probation. Officials say she stole hydrocodone while working for a Cazenovia dentist.

The Chittenango woman acknowledged guilt in a signed consent order.

The state suspended her certificate to practice indefinitely until she submits a written report verifying that she’s fit to practice. She’ll be placed on probation for two years when the suspension is lifted.

It’s unclear if she has an attorney who could comment.
