SKYKOMISH, Wash. (AP) - Traffic is moving in both directions again on storm-damaged U.S. Highway 2 between Skykomish and Stevens Pass.

Heavy rainfall from Tuesday’s storm washed away a significant amount soil that supports the foundation of a small bridge near Skykomish. That forced the closure of a 15-mile stretch west of Stevens Pass, but the state Department of Transportation said it completed emergency bridge repair work on Monday.

That said, there’s more work to come. Officials say they need to close the highway again Tuesday night to replace a damaged culvert five miles west of Skykomish.
