BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police are investigating the shooting death of a car passenger.

Birmingham Police Department spokesman Sean Edwards said in a news release that a passenger in the front seat of a car was found Monday night with a gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

Police said the car’s driver said the victim was shot by a man riding in the backseat of the car. The driver said he jumped out of the car after the shooting and ran to a nearby fire station to call police.
