BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Officials say $9 million improvements on a waterfront park in Vermont have been completed.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, Gov. Peter Shumlin and other officials were in the city Monday morning to open the Waterfront North Access project, the first new waterfront public infrastructure investment since the creation of Waterfront Park two decades ago.

The upgrades began in August 2014 and include realignment and widening of a stretch of the city’s popular bikeway and new public parking. An expanded skate park was also added and power lines were put underground.

The improvements are the latest effort in the city’s ongoing waterfront redevelopment plan. Weinberger says construction to rebuild more of the bikeway from the skate park to North Beach will resume next spring.
