DETROIT (AP) - A car crashed outside the federal courthouse in downtown Detroit, flipping onto its roof and trapping the driver inside.

Police blocked off streets around the courthouse Tuesday morning as rescuers responded. Firefighters pried open the vehicle to get to the driver, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police say the crash was being investigated as an accident.

Police didn’t have detail on the man’s injuries.

Court spokesman Rod Hansen says in an email that initial reports indicate that the driver was going too fast, tried to turn a corner and hit a light pole before the car flipped over. Hansen says there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the building.

Federal marshals, who provide security at the courthouse, joined police and others in blocking off the area.
