KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) - A 20-year-old Lexington man who took a plea deal in a campus sex assault case is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

The Kearney Hub reports (https://bit.ly/1P5A41u ) that Jorge Gutierrez-Alavez pleaded no contest and was convicted of attempted sexual assault, a felony. Sentencing is set for Jan. 20.

Prosecutors say Gutierrez-Alavez was a student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on April 26 when he assaulted another male student in a campus residence hall. Prosecutors lowered the charge in exchange for Gutierrez-Alavez’s plea.

Campus spokeswoman Kelly Bartling says Gutierrez-Alavez no longer attends the university.
