SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A defense lawyer says a Sioux City man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend plans to use an insanity or diminished-capacity defense.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1lH7Gq6 ) that attorney Mike Williams last week filed notice with the court for his client Isack Abdinur. The 35-year-old Abdinur has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in the June stabbing of 43-year-old Cornelia Stead in her Sioux City apartment. Police say the two were romantic partners.

Abdinur already has been evaluated by a defense psychologist and is awaiting an examination by a prosecution expert. His trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 26.
