BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A detective says a man accused of intentionally crashing his car into a traffic light pole in Boulder to try to kill his girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat, may have been delusional at the time.

The Daily Camera reports (https://goo.gl/zKduZe ) Detective Sarah Cantu testified Monday during a preliminary hearing involving 51-year-old George Pappas, who is charged with attempted murder and assault. Cantu says Pappas’ sister told her he is a delusional meth addict who has expressed fears that he is on a reality television show and that the city of Boulder was involved in a “great conspiracy” against him.

Pappas’ public defender, Jennifer Engelmann, told the judge the testimony “was nothing but hearsay within hearsay.”

Pappas was seriously injured in the Oct. 12 crash. His 35-year-old girlfriend was hurt but was able to walk away from the crash.
