BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A new Catholic high school will be built on a 48-acre plot in Bismarck thanks to a land donation.

Light of Christ Catholic Schools announced Tuesday that it will build a new St. Mary’s Central High School. The land valued at $6 million was donated by the family of local developer Ron Knutson.

Light of Christ President Gerald Vetter says enrollment at Bismarck’s Catholic schools has increased by 20 percent over the past five years. He says space is maxed out at many of the school system’s facilities and enrollment is expected to continue to increase.

Bishop David Kagan says the donation is the largest ever to the Diocese of Bismarck.

Knutson says children will “get a great education and feel part of a family” at the new school.
