BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Oystermen have until Monday to harvest the shellfish in the Lake Chien Public Oyster Seed Ground in Terrebonne Parish.

That area closes at one half-hour after sunset on Nov. 30.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, in a news release Monday, said the area holds a limited oyster supply and harvest pressure during the oyster season, which opened on Oct. 19, has reduced the oyster resource.

The department says closing the area to protect the remaining oyster reef resources is in the long-term best interest of oyster conservation in the area.
