JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Madison County officials say 16 inmates were involved in a disturbance and vandalism at the J. Alexander Leech Criminal Justice Complex.

According to The Jackson Sun (https://bit.ly/1Ids6M2 ), Sheriff John Mehr says in a statement that the incident began around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say the inmates vandalized their cell areas by breaking window, setting fire to one of the pods and damaging telephones, a camera and sprinkler heads. The sheriff’s office says order was later restored after deputies and officers from Jackson Police Department extinguished the fire.

Mehr says there were no injuries.

Mehr says officials are trying to figure out how much monetary damage the inmates caused, but says the majority of the repairs have been made.

An investigation into how the incident started is ongoing.
