FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - The University of California, San Francisco-Fresno has received a $1 million gift to help the school establish a center on aging to serve a growing senior population in the central San Joaquin Valley.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/21e5Pt7 ) that the gift from the Larry L. Hillblom Foundation will help establish a center to bring together health providers and geriatrics experts to provide coordinated care for senior patients.

A UCSF-Fresno official says the center will hopefully not only attract geriatrics specialists but someday train them. Nationwide there are only 6,200 geriatrics specialists.

The Hillblom Foundation was created in 1996 and has granted more than $100 million of UCSF and other University of California institutions.
