VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - For the second straight year, a woman in Vicksburg is offering Thanksgiving meals to dozens of people in need.

Emmarie Flaggs-Anderson is expecting to serve over 100 meals this year to people in the area, The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/1NoXQFJ) reports.

She is asking the community to prepare potluck-style dishes and help serve the meals this Wednesday at St. Mary’s Gym in Vicksburg.

Flaggs-Anderson said she got the idea from her late grandmother, Mozella Flaggs, who also provided Thanksgiving meals to those in need. Flaggs-Anderson said she is calling the event “Granny’s Kitchen,” in honor of her grandmother.

“She fed the needy in her area, and that could have meant needy because of lack of finances, or no family in the area, or someone just in need of some love,” Flaggs-Anderson said. “Her ultimate goal was to provide a family oriented Thanksgiving feast.”

She said last year’s event served over 100 meals thanks to the help from the community including the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is the time of year when people are usually exposed to love. I thought: Why not get together and provide that love to those in need in this community?” she said.

That’s when Flaggs-Anderson decided to go on Facebook and tell people about what her grandmother did. There, she proposed having a sit-down dinner for people in need around the community.

The community responded by bringing dishes and helping serve and help in any way possible. According to her, the sheriff even allowed his deputies to deliver meals to those who could not make it to the dinner.

She said they are expecting to serve even more meals this time around.
