LEBANON, Ore. (AP) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of starting a fire that damaged two homes in Lebanon, Oregon.

The Lebanon Police Department said Wednesday that 33-year-old Jack Thompson was identified as a suspect early on, when he reportedly told a neighbor attempting to extinguish the Nov. 6 blaze: “Why are you putting it out? Let it burn man.”

The department says it then obtained video surveillance showing Thompson leaving a house just before smoke and flames become visible.

There were no injuries, but one of the houses was heavily damaged.

Thompson was booked into the Linn County Jail on two counts of first-degree arson.
