ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Investigators say the deaths of a man and woman found in an Anderson County motel are likely linked to a shooting that killed a man in Simpsonville earlier this week.

The bodies of Kevin Duane Brewer, 37, and Jennifer Lynn Bensch, 32, of Simpsonville were found in the motel Tuesday, said Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore. Autopsies were planned Wednesday to determine the cause of death.

Police investigating the shooting death of Donnie Pitts Taylor, 76, of Simpsonville on Monday night came to the motel to arrest a suspect in Taylor’s death.

Police say there was a standoff and one officer was hit on his bullet-proof helmet but was not hurt. Authorities said officers fired only tear gas into the motel room.

During the standoff, Simpsonville Police Chief Keith Grounsell said Brewer implicated himself in Taylor’s fatal shooting, which Brewer said happened after an argument turned physical. It is unclear how the men knew each other.

Taylor died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said.

Taylor’s wallet, keys and vehicle were missing, Grounsell said.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the standoff.
