CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Charlotte Hornets have agreed in principle to a multiyear contract extension with third-year coach Steve Clifford.

The team did not release financial terms Wednesday.

Clifford has a career record of 84-94 since taking over in 2013. The team went 43-39 in his first season and made the playoffs but was swept in the first round by Miami. They fell to 33-49 amid a series of injuries last year.

The Hornets are 8-6 this season and have vastly remade their roster, adding Nicolas Batum, Spencer Hawes, Jeremy Lamb and Jeremy Lin to the mix.

The Hornets host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
