LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A district judge has sealed motions filed in a capital case against 24-year-old Landon Broussard, a Lafayette man charged with beating his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son to death.

The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1jjncH0) Judge Laurie Hulin ordered documents filed outside of court hearings be sealed from the public a week ago.

Broussard was arrested and charged with first-degree murder of Julian Madera in 2012. The Lafayette Parish Coroner’s report described more than 25 injuries on the boy’s body including a torn ear, a split lip, swollen eye and abrasions on his genitals.

Madera’s mother, Laura Smith, pleaded guilty last year to one count of cruelty to a juvenile.
