DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A man accused of killing another man in Waukee has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Forty-two-year-old Brendan McGuinness entered a not guilty plea in court Wednesday.

McGuinness is accused of shooting 41-year-old Gino Risola several times in early November. Risola later died at a hospital.

Authorities say McGuinness ambushed Risola when he and his wife returned to their home.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/1T4bHiV ) the shooting is the first homicide in Waukee since 1977.

McGuiness has a pretrial conference scheduled on Jan. 8. A jury trial is set for Feb. 1.
