PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A pregnant teenager is heading to prison for refusing to testify against her boyfriend in the slaying of a Pennsylvania man earlier this year.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1YtJjdH ) 18-year-old Brianna Stewart had the choice to testify against her boyfriend under immunity or spend at least six months in jail. She told a judge on Tuesday that she “can’t do this.”

Municipal Court Judge Teresa Carr Deni cited Stewart for contempt of court and sentenced her to jail time. Stewart is eight months pregnant.

Prosecutors say she was a witness in the July 13 slaying of 46-year-old Frederic Schmid in Philadelphia. Her boyfriend, 19-year-old Elijah Maddox, and 18-year-old Samantha Angelo are charged in the killing.

Their preliminary hearing is rescheduled for next week.
