The Daily Citizen (https://bit.ly/1Xreiob ) reported Tuesday that 57-year-old James Marion Valentine has been charged with capital murder and first-degree battery in the shooting. Forty-year-old Michael Hammond was killed, and Valentine’s wife was shot in the arm.

According to a police affidavit, deputies from the White County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a shooting around 2:45 a.m. Oct. 8. Authorities say Hammond was shot in the stomach and he was transported to Unity Health-White County Medical Center, where he later died.

According Sgt. Heather Zomant, all three people involved in the altercation lived in the same location.

The suspect is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 1. It was not immediately clear if Valentine has an attorney.
