IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Space has been donated for a temporary homeless shelter in Iowa City this winter.

Shelter House executive director Crissy Canganelli says the shelter could house up to 30 people a night, operate for 13 weeks and could open as soon as Dec. 14. The space is across a street from Shelter House.

The emergency shelter is for people with substance abuse issues and others who can’t or won’t stay at Shelter House.

Canganelli says Shelter House normally provides 70 beds a night and recently gained permission to add 20 overflow beds.
