MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin running back Corey Clement has been cited for disorderly conduct in connection with his role in a Nov. 8 fight in his apartment building.

Wisconsin spokesman Brian Lucas said in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday that police informed the athletic department a day earlier that Clement had been cited for two counts of disorderly conduct.

It wasn’t clear what sort of discipline Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst might impose on Clement, if any, Lucas said. Wisconsin (8-3, 5-2 Big Ten) faces Minnesota (5-6, 2-5) on Saturday in Minneapolis in the Badgers’ regular season finale. Lucas didn’t immediately respond to a request to interview Clement.

A police report indicates that the fight began as a verbal argument between Clement and a group of men in the elevator of Clement’s apartment building, the Wisconsin State Journal and WKOW-TV reported.

Police reported that Clement repeatedly insulted the girlfriend of one of the men, and that when everyone got out on the sixth floor, Clement punched one of the men in the face, knocking him to the ground. A fight then broke out between Clement and three or four other members of the group.

A security guard tried to hold Clement back, but Clement repeatedly surged forward toward the other men, appearing to revive the dispute several times, according to detectives’ account of building security video footage.

The police version of the incident conflicts with the university’s initial account of the dispute. The school issued a news release on Nov. 12, saying Clement had been assaulted. But a detective wrote in the report that the statement was misleading.

Lucas said in his email to the AP on Wednesday that the news release was based on information university officials had at the time, and that “further details on the incident have come to light.”

Two men from the group Clement fought, along with the girlfriend, also were cited for disorderly conduct. The man who Clement punched to start the fight wasn’t cited.
