BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Mountain lion hunting during the early season in North Dakota’s Zone 1 closed on Sunday with six cats killed, under the quota of 14.

The state Game and Fish Department says the late season in Zone 1 began Monday and runs through next March or until the quota of seven cats is filled.

The late season allows lions to be pursued with dogs, in addition to other legal methods.

The late season quota in Zone 1 filled early last year, so hunters are advised to check updates on the Game and Fish website, www.gf.nd.gov .

Zone 1 roughly encompasses the southwest and west central parts of the state. There is no quota in Zone 2, the rest of the state. Lion hunting there is open through the end of March.
