NEWLAND, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina’s state Christmas trees are on their way to the capitol in Raleigh.

WBTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MFLp4J ) the 13-foot Frasier Fir for the state Capitol Building was picked out Wednesday by tree grower Larry Smith in Newland in the mountains in Avery County.

Smith won a contest and is also providing smaller trees for the governor’s and lieutenant governor’s offices.

Smith had some helping measuring the trees. Seven-foot-2 former North Carolina State basketball star Tommy Burleson lives nearby and helped figure out their heights.
