MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) - Will Geoghegan, a Nike runner from Eugene, Oregon, has won the 79th annual Manchester Road Race in an unofficial time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds.

Olympian and defending champion Diane Nukuri of Burundi won the women’s race in an unofficial clocking of 24:20.

About 15,000 runners, ranging from Olympians to costumed joggers, packed Main Street to compete in the annual event, known for its unique length of 4.748 miles.

This year, race organizers gave special red, white and blue bibs to male runners who have run the race 50 times or more and female competitors who have run 40 times or more.

Race organizers donated more than $100,000 in proceeds from last year’s Thanksgiving Day race to 19 charitable and non-profit organizations.
