JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A new female African elephant has joined the herd at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.

The zoo announced that Thandi, who is about 34 years old, arrived earlier this month from The National Elephant Center in central Florida. She is going through the standard 30-day quarantine period before joining the zoo’s two elephants, Ali and Sheena.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/HCnEeT ) reports that Thandi is past her reproductive age, but she’s been a good “aunt” to young elephants at other zoos.
