BOSTON (AP) - Those whose Thanksgiving weekend plans include a trip to a state park in Massachusetts will be able to put away their wallets.

The state has announced that all entry and parking fees will be waived at state parks from Thursday through Sunday.

Gov. Charlie Baker said the fees are being waived in honor of veterans and those still serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, although they apply to all visitors to the parks.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is also offering several guided “Black Friday” hikes for people who prefer the serenity of state parks and forests to busy shopping malls on the day after Thanksgiving.

Hikers are advised to wear proper footwear and bring a bottle of water.
